Welcome to the Beer Review.
I’m glad that for one reason or another, you’ve stopped by this blog (that’s short for beer logged). I hope that you will find this a comfortable and welcoming webspace, one where you can both feel at home and enjoy a bit of a community of beer consumers who are serious about their drink, but not about themselves.
I’m sure that we’ve all been down to a pub, bar, club, boozer, slosh house, electric soup kitchen and inevitably run into the legendary “beer snob”, killer of all things about beer which are actually fun. I myself have had several uncomfortable encounters with these self-proclaimed connoisseurs and have been increasingly motivated to develop a philosophy of drinking which emphasizes all aspects of beer drinking (the atmosphere, the company, the attitude, and the beer itself) as they center around the most essential aspect of beer drinking: fun!
Some beer consumers have taken to taking themselves so seriously that they ruin the experience for those around them. They’re so consumed with impressing their mates or the newly divorced thirty-something down the bar that the lose all sense of acceptable social behavior. Instead of allowing each man his own, they insist on some beers over others; they form the crucial designations of “real beer” over and against “that other stuff” which also becomes known as “piss”, “water”, grog, etc. They ruin others enjoyment of beer which is, to them, perfectly fine and enjoyable.
I simply can’t stand this cliquish, elitist mentality where it concerns the enjoyment of beer. I figure, drink what you like, don’t drink what you don’t like.
This is one of the founding principles of this blog: drinking things you like. The other is its compliment, the yin to its yang, if you will; one should be open-minded enough about drinking things he likes to try things which he does not know if he will like or not, thus inevitably finding more things that he likes to drink. And like a good Yankee by birth, I know that more is always better.
Entries to follow will chronicle my experiences (and others’ as well) drinking new things and old things. Hopefully, you will enjoy it. If not, don’t “drink” it. But thanks for trying anyway!
